Year:  2017, Feasibility Study
Location:  The Pas, MB
Client:  The Pas & Area Animal Shelter Inc.

The Town of The Pas had been without an animal shelter for a decade, leading to significant concern for the health and well-being of homeless animals within the town and surrounding area.  BCA had the exciting opportunity to work with the community of The Pas to design a new animal shelter that would not only provide a safe home for stray cats and dogs, but would also act as a welcome gathering space for all members of the community.

The building is low-maintenance, accessible and utilizes an unoccupied site, surrounded by plentiful green space close to schools, seniors' residences and recreation centres.  Through the careful use of glazing and program layout, a luminous, inviting space is created at the front of the building.  With views into both the dog and cat rooms, this open area is well-suited to visiting furry friends.  Spaces for new arrivals and neo-natal care are strategically placed at the back of the building, where animals can benefit from a more private environment.
