Guiding Values
Connection + Community
We are a company of architects, designers, and advocates, each bringing a unique set of skills and experiences to the table. Since 1998, our practice has been rooted in Manitoba on ancestral lands in Treaty 1 Territory and the heartland of the Red River Métis people. Our work takes many forms – from architectural design, heritage planning and community planning, to exhibits and poster campaigns. We have received over 30 awards in accessible, inclusive design and heritage architecture.
Dignity
Community activism infuses our work. We build relationships. We work towards making people's lives better and our communities stronger. We listen and we ask careful questions. We're helping to lead change. Here are some firsts. We designed the accessibility ramp for Manitoba's Legislative Building (the first such ramp for a Legislative Building in Canada), the first passive house in Manitoba, the first pop-up public toilet in Winnipeg - and we have worked to bring permanent public toilets back to Winnipeg.
Shelter
Shelter is a fundamental human need—and a reflection of collective care. In our housing work, we design spaces that support those facing instability, displacement, or limited access to safe environments. Every project is shaped by empathy and respect, offering not just protection, but a sense of home, dignity, and possibility.
Joy, Beauty + Meaning
We celebrate collaboration. All our work is people-oriented. We believe good design comes from listening and building relationships with individuals and communities. It is an honour to be invited into communities, to learn from their stories, and to design and build together. Our inclusive design process encourages collaboration among our design team, consultants and clients. The results: culturally responsive, inventive, resourceful, robust, even simple and elegant design solutions.
Mindful
We believe designers have the moral responsibility to create spaces that are accessible, safe and inclusive for all people, regardless of their ability, identity, and background. Mindfulness in design means more than meeting standards, it is about anticipating needs, removing barriers, and fostering dignity through every detail.
Safety, Security + Option
Safety and security are the foundation of meaningful design. We create spaces that offer comfort and protection, while allowing for choice, flexibility, and personal agency. Architecture should not only shelter—it should empower, adapting to the diverse needs of those who inhabit it.
Recognizing Change
We honour the nexus of new and old design, specializing in adaptive re-use and energy-efficient retrofits. Change is not only architectural. It represents the evolution of communities, relationships, and trust. Buildings, like people, weather time: they age, gather marks of history, and carry stories of resilience, loss, achievement, and growth. We design with this in mind, creating spaces that adapt gracefully, commemorate milestones, and host moments of remembrance and celebration.
To us, recognizing change means embracing transformation as part of life, welcoming the patina of age, the shifting needs of communities, and the opportunities that arise from both. Architecture becomes a vessel for continuity and renewal, a place where memory and possibility coexist. We see change not as disruption, but as a shared journey, one that strengthens community and deepens connection.
