Amoowigamig - Winnipeg Public Toilet

Winnipeg, MB

Year:  2022
Location:  Winnipeg
Budget: $875,000

A new permanent public washroom for the Main and Higgins area in Winnipeg  is now built. Designed for dignity and respect, the project involved close collaboration with the City of Winnipeg, Thunderbird House, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, and other community agencies. It incorporates best practice harm reduction principles and offers a prototype for future public toilets across the city.

BridgmanCollaborative has been lobbying for public toilets in Winnipeg and across Canada for more than a decade: A Public Calling - Making a Plea for the Urban Outhouse, Public Toilets, Accessibility and Human Rights: A Winnipeg Pop-Up Campaign and Human Dignity on Main Street: Public Toilets in Canada. See also our Pop-Up Winnipeg Public Toilet; and here is a presentation by Wins Bridgman for the Rotary Club of Winnipeg (spring 2022).

We all need public toilets.
