The Sagkeeng Land-Based Healing and Wellness Centre is a community-led response to the urgent need for culturally grounded spaces that support healing from trauma, addiction, and disconnection. Rooted in Anicinabe teachings and values, the Centre will provide safe, land-based environments for ceremony, language revitalization, and intergenerational connection.

The project includes a main lodge, family and staff cabins, and extensive outdoor spaces for gathering, play, and ceremony. Designed with natural materials, green roofs, and locally sourced construction, the Centre reflects a deep respect for the land and community. Energy efficiency and sustainability are central to the design, with potential for geothermal integration.

Emerging in the wake of the Whiteshell Laboratories’ decommissioning, this Centre acknowledges that true healing cannot be achieved through environmental remediation alone. It must happen on the land, through ceremony, and within spaces that honour Sagkeeng’s spirit, history, and future.
