Shoal Lake 40, ON

Year:  Completed 2026
Location:  Shoal Lake 40, ON
Client:  Shoal Lake 40 First Nation

The Shoal Lake 40 Prevention Centre is a completed 16,400 SF facility that strengthens the community’s child and family services through culturally grounded, prevention‑focused programming. Developed in partnership with Indigenous Services Canada, the project includes a dedicated Prevention Building and an adjoining garage that together support a full range of operational and program needs.

Designed through a culturally sensitive and community‑driven approach, the centre provides safe, welcoming, and flexible spaces for youth engagement, family support, and holistic wellness initiatives. Key program areas include a teaching kitchen, a round ceremonial room, a library, dedicated youth spaces, and office areas to accommodate expanding staff and services.

The facility plays a vital role in enhancing prevention programming for children, youth, young adults, and families. By offering intentionally designed spaces for culturally informed practices, the centre supports approaches rooted in substantive equality, traditional knowledge, and intergenerational healing.

As Shoal Lake 40 First Nation continues to revitalize its language and cultural practices, the Prevention Centre serves as a cornerstone in reclaiming and restoring community‑led models of care. Its focus on family‑based, culturally grounded programming helps reduce apprehensions, minimize re‑entries into protective services, and strengthen pathways to wellness. With expanded program and office space, the centre enables the agency to meet rising community needs while fostering resilience, connection, and cultural continuity.
