POINT DOUGLAS RESIDENTS' COMMITTEE 5 Year Strategic Plan

Picture

Year:  2018
Location:  Winnipeg, MB
Partner:
Lissie Rappaport

North Point Douglas (NPD) is a unique, diverse, affordable, and beautiful neighbourhood. It is one of Winnipeg’s oldest neighbourhoods, with a strong history of activism. It is recognized by many as women-led, home to a strong Indigenous community and descendants of Eastern European immigrants. The community is committed to equity and reconciliation, exemplified by residents, and allies, advocating for the Indigenous naming of the active transportation path along the river to Migizi (Ojibway for eagle). It is a sustainable community, organizing community clean-ups, and improving lighting to make walking and cycling safer in the Higgins/Main underpass. NPD nurtures its community by improving housing conditions in rooming houses and lobbying when funding to the North Point Douglas Women’s Centre was threatened. This history, diversity, and beauty of North Point Douglas are the essence of this five-year strategic plan.
