CITY CROSSING - INTERNATIONAL IDEAS COMPETITION - PORTAGE & MAIN
This international ideas competition (2004) melded public and private interests, leading to a public/private partnership for the redevelopment of Winnipeg's famous Main Street/Portage Avenue intersection and its adjacent areas (see press release).
Key redevelopment issues included: enhancing pedestrian and vehicular connections within the downtown, pedestrian access to the buildings and concourse, and celebrating the intersection's important place as the historic, cultural and commercial centre of the city. Wins Bridgman was the professional advisor and organized this competition, which was sponsored by the City of Winnipeg (see 2004 press coverage under News).

*To open or not to open* the Main and Portage intersection is an ongoing debate in Winnipeg. The international ideas competition helped to kickstart conversations about exciting ideas for re-imagining the iconic intersection and the very future of Winnipeg's downtown.
