CITY CROSSING - INTERNATIONAL IDEAS COMPETITION - PORTAGE & MAIN
Date: 2004 Client: City of Winnipeg Award: Heritage Winnipeg Preservation Award for Excellence, Institutional Conservation Award This international ideas competition melded public and private interests, leading to a public/private partnership for the redevelopment of Winnipeg's famous Main Street/Portage Avenue intersection and its adjacent areas (see press release). Key redevelopment issues included: enhancing pedestrian and vehicular connections within the downtown, pedestrian access to the buildings and concourse, and celebrating the intersection's important place as the historic, cultural and commercial centre of the city.
